Welcome to Reinvented Labs

Imitation is flattery. Following in the model of Google and silverorange, we’re happy to unveil a little corner of the web for talking about the technology that we at Reinvented create.

The rambling boulevard that is the Reinvented blog will stay in place in much the same form. This space is for talking about technology and how we use it. Like our colleagues at silverorange, we’ll also be releasing some of the bits of our code into the public domain so that others may build on them (and, we hope, tell them how to make them better).

Steven GarrityVery cool. Great idea. Maybe your Weblogs.com ping-queue code could make a good post.

Brad PineauThis is great. I'd love to see what kind of code comes from Reinvented.

Lou QuillioTruly fine. How to implement this sort of umbrella hierarchy has been nagging at me for awhile.

Categories, nested categories ... they're unnatural from a UI standpoint, ask too much of folks. Let me propose a new (to me, anyhow) metaphor.

Flavors.

It's the site you know, but it has parts. You needn't penetrate the designer's logic, you need only choose a flavor. Flavor is signalled by color, but everything works the same otherwise.

It's child-like, but in the best sense. "Which flavor would you like, honey?"

"Green, please."

Dynamite concept, dynamite treatment, from a dynamite designer. Congratulations on a whole new flavor of less-is-more.

Daniel BurkaLooks great Peter. One minor suggestion. When one clicks on the Reinvented Labs title, it seems natural that one would be taken to the home page of the Labs site. Currently it takes you to the Reinvented home page. I've already made the mistake a number of times.

KenIn this new Labs section, perhaps you could entertain new questions from readers - so the wisdom of the group could be applied.

Here is a question I have been struggling to answer:

Several of my clients are having email problems which cause a lot of 'Undelivered' or 'Returned' emails, but the original message was not sent by them, it appears to be someone putting their address in the reply-to field. Sometimes up to ten or more of these bounce-back messages are received everyday. Have you heard of anything like this?

Their system scans clean for virus'

artHere is another question seeking group wisdom. What are the feelings for or against Content Management Systems (CMS)? Are any of the open source or commercial CMS options, such as Nuke, the way to go for organizations maintaining a web site?
